describe the imageAt each of our UMH communities, we are proud to offer health and wellness programs that promote independence, dignity, and choice for our residents.

Healthy senior living is a goal that can be reached….our staff work hard to support and encourage residents to create and meet goals that will help them to live strong and well for as long as they possibly can.

If managing your aging loved one’s health is becoming a challenge, maybe it’s time to consider the lifestyle of an assisted living community.

Here’s why…..

A Balanced Diet

Has cooking balanced meals become difficult or tedious for your aging loved one? For many older adults, proper nutrition is an important part of maintaining independence. If your loved one manages a chronic condition, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, the choices he or she makes at mealtimes can be critical.

Many caregivers find themselves worried and stressed when realizing their loved ones have established diets consisting of canned foods, snacks, and sweets……not exactly a balanced diet. The reality is, maintaining a balanced diet is a difficult task when cooking for yourself is no longer easy.

When a resident enjoys nutritious, balanced meals prepared by our chef, reviewed by our dietitian, and served by our friendly wait staff, a proper diet becomes part of their regular routine. In our UMH communities, our dining services staff partner with families to manage your loved one’s health, providing you needed peace of mind.

Fitness Opportunities

How many times have you stressed to your loved one the importance of being active or getting out of “that chair” and moving around?!?

Filling the role of caregiver AND exercise coach is typically not a lot of fun. While many older adults may enjoy regular fitness, some continually resist getting out of their chair and doing any kind of activity, especially when their family members are constantly reminding them. Save yourself the added stress of trying to get your loved one to exercise and consider an assisted living community.

Fitness opportunities abound in senior living communities…..the layout alone encourages motion, as residents walk to the dining room for each meal and other common areas throughout the day. With the safety and security of 24-hour staff, residents can walk the halls of the community or the walkways outdoors with added peace of mind. With a variety of fitness classes and equipment, designed specifically for seniors, coupled with the accountability and support of staff and residents, your loved one can be set up for success when it comes to moving those muscles.

Health and Wellness Prevention and Education

Prevention is a great way to protect your loved one from illness, falls, and other health conditions.

In our UMH communities, our Wellness teams partner with healthcare professionals to create prevention and education programs of support to help your loved one age in place with strength. Health education sessions, presented by occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, and other trained professionals offer tips for staying hydrated, managing pain, dealing with depression, choosing proper footwear and more!

Residents are encouraged to attend these health and wellness chats to learn and be reminded of important health habits. In our UMH assisted living communities, blood pressure clinics, balance clinics, foot clinics, and hearing clinics are offered regularly to residents and included as part of the monthly rental of their apartment. With a focus on relationship-centered care, our nursing staff can observe and monitor changes in your loved one’s health, encourage them to attend health and fitness classes, and serve as your cheerleader to help your loved one stay active.

Learn More!

Promoting healthy senior living only begins with the opportunities we talked about here. At our Wesley Village campus, our Wellness Center not only offers personalized fitness classes, but outpatient therapy programs, a heated therapy pool, and Nu-Step fitness equipment, and is open to residents and the community at large. Our Middlewoods of Newinton community is currently undergoing renovations to add a state-of-the art fitness and therapy center to help maximize the independence of our residents.
