middlewoods of farmington

Tucked away on the backside of the UCONN Health Center is one of the most award-winning Assisted Living communities in Connecticut; a place where residents live life to the fullest, their family and friends are welcomed and become members of the Middlewoods of Farmington family, and where staff come to work knowing they are encouraged build relationships with residents in order to provide better care and find joy in their work.  Of the many, many reasons to celebrate the last fourteen years of caring and enriching lives at this community, here are just a few of our favorites:

Mission

It is intentional that we use the phrase “Caring Relationships, Enriching Lives”; being part of United Methodist Homes means that how we care for our residents is driven by our Mission.  Our focus on relationship-centered care is at the heart of all that we do.

Community

Our vibrant, active and life affirming community is filled with wonderful residents, devoted families, and an outstanding staff of long standing.   Each week gets off to the right start with a “Town Meeting” where all residents and staff are encouraged to attend and participate.

Awards

We are a multiple award-winning community, with numerous Best Practice and Outstanding Caregiver awards given by the CT Association of Assisted Living, the Assisted Living Federation of America and Planetree.

Lifestyle

Middlewoods of Farmington was the first ever community in the country to offer “Resident Retreats” as a way to build community, improve customer satisfaction and sensitize our residents to the aging process so they could have a better understanding of what their peers with limitations may be experiencing.

Volunteering

We are a community devoted to volunteering; reading to local school children, feeding the homeless, and raising money for our local Relay for Life Team are just a few of the many opportunities available for our residents to help others.

UCONN Affiliation

Our relationship with the UCONN Health Center, a nationally known teaching hospital, provides easy access to medical care. We offer an on-site Geriatric Clinic for our residents so they don’t even have to leave the building to see their doctor.  Our Medical Director is a regular at the community and helps to educate residents on health and wellness issues.

Engagement

A top-notch Activity program is designed to helping each resident find meaning, stay active and embrace life.  Our staff gets to know each resident and their interests and uses this information to create programs that meet the diverse needs of those we care for.  Programs include trips and activities to meet the social, recreational and vocational needs of our residents.

A Way to the Heart Through the Stomach

Three delicious and nutritious meals are lovingly planned and prepared by our Executive Chef, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a founding employee of our community.  Residents are actively involved in a Food Committee and we look to them for input and feedback.

Health and Wellness

Compassionate, respectful and professional care is provided by our Wellness Department.  Whether it is regularly scheduled or a la carte personal care services, our certified nursing assistants and registered nurses provide a caring touch.

Home

Enjoy a comfortable, meticulously maintained home-like environment designed to meet your needs.  In addition to their apartment, residents utilize our living room, sun room, country kitchen, tea room and private dining room for visits with family and friends.

Spirituality

Opportunities abound to explore spirituality through prayer groups, meditation, church services and a rosary group.  United Methodist Homes’ Director of Spiritual Life is a regular at the community and meets with residents individually and in groups to help meet their spiritual needs.

Fitness

Fitness opportunities include a variety of fun daily exercise classes, a membership at the local YMCA where our residents can utilize all of the amenities including the swimming pool, and regular walking groups in and around the community as well as at special destinations.

Nature

Enjoy the wood-like setting with a walking path, raised garden beds, bird watching and beautiful flowers and shrubs.  Our property is lovingly tended to by our staff (including a Master Gardener) and residents who have a passion for gardening.

About Elizabeth Bemis

In 1998, I drove past an assisted living community construction site, learned that it was part of United Methodist Homes and realized the next stop on my professional journey was to work for a mission driven organization. Soon after, I joined the team as Executive Director of our Middlewoods of Farmington community and later served as Regional Manager for the Middlewoods properties before accepting my current role as Vice President of Marketing, Promotions, and Assisted Living Operations. I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, reading, walking, and love working alongside our staff, residents, and families to build strong communities that reflect the mission, vision, and values of United Methodist Homes.
