The Little Community That Could

Activities at Middlewoods of NewingtonYou might think that an assisted living community with only sixty residents wouldn’t have that much excitement. If you are thinking of Middlewoods of Newington, you would be wrong! The one-story community with 60 apartments uses its size to its advantage. Residents are able to foster meaningful relationships with other residents and the staff. Not only does everyone know each other’s names, they know who your family is and what is new and exciting in each other’s lives.

Our home-like setting allows us to enrich the lives of our residents in countless ways. Take for example all the residents who became involved in our first foray into film, “Mystery At 2125”. Residents staged and acted out scenes to a movie (very loosely based on the “Home Alone” series) written by a Middlewoods of Newington employee. In good humor they threw pies at a “bandit”, conspired to trip, trap and freeze the bandit out and celebrated with coveted Dove Bars. (Watch the short film - VIDEO)

Life is Too Short to Not Have Fun!

Fun at Middlewoods of NewingtonOur successes are not just limited to the film, although we do like to capture many of our memories that way. Take our “Viva Las Middlewoods Anniversary Party” celebration! Our Dining Room was transformed into a Vegas style venue, equipped with gaming tables, champagne servers, an elaborate chocolate fondue display, lights, lights, and more lights, feathered headdresses, sparkles, dice, “High Rollers” and so much more! Residents and staff participated in a Talent Revue, featuring a comedy skit, magic show, tap and salsa dancing, and a rousing performance of “Copa Cabana”, and capped off with a “wedding” ceremony between two residents conducted by a genuine Elvis impersonator! It doesn’t get much better than that! (Watch the highlights - VIDEO)

Our Caring Staff

Caring Staff at Middlewoods of Newington

Middlewoods of Newington epitomizes our Mission; to provide services that support health, independence, and dignity through a relationship-centered philosophy which best sustains body, mind, and spirit.

Each and every day our staff care from their hearts about our residents, not because it is their job, but because it is their calling in life. When Marjorie, our housekeeper lovingly cleans an apartment like she does for each resident every week, it is with a smile on her face and a song filling the room (Watch Marjorie here - VIDEO).

We work to meet the varied spiritual needs of our residents in creative and fulfilling ways. If they are looking to swim or relax in a hot tub, a trip to the YMCA is the thing to do. For those looking to see the latest movie release, a trip to the movie theater is in order. Regular lunch trips to local and not so local establishments are something many look forward to. And with the warm weather come trips to and picnics at the beach. Who could ask for anything more?

The “New” Middlewoods of Newington has been specially designed to provide environments that encourage conversation and friendships. Gathering spaces, just like you would find in your own home create an ambiance and atmosphere that promotes camaraderie. The Country Kitchen, with its farmhouse table brings back memories of enjoying a cup of tea with family. Our double-sided fireplace is reminiscent of times spent in front of a roaring fire.

Building relationships is so important at Middlewoods of Newington that it is not unusual, and in fact is expected, that you will see residents sitting together and with staff enjoying a cup of coffee or connecting with long-distance family via FaceTime or Skype.

Our specially designed and newly renovated building provides an environment conducive to deepening friendships. Knowing each resident and what makes a memorable day for him or her is part of what we do best.

  • One floor living in a building with only 60 apartments means that your friends are always close by
  • New resident orientation process helps residents get to know others who share common interests and history
  • Open-concept floor plan provides many spaces for residents to gather in small and large group

At UMH, we understand that no matter what your age, you still have dreams; Places you want to go, things you want to do, milestones to achieve. Big or small, the staff at our communities wants to help. The award-winning “Journey of Dreams” program was created on our Wesley Village Campus to offer opportunities for personal growth and fulfillment of individual dreams. Residents are encouraged to submit up to three wishes, goals or desires that they would like to come true. A committee meets to review the wishes and devise a plan to assist in the fulfillment of those wishes.
