I started working as a Marketing Coordinator for United Methodist Homes in October of 2016. I work on public relations, website management and community planning for their award winning independent and assisted living communities. As a graduate of Ursinus College with a degree in Media and Communications and a passion for serving nonprofits, United Methodist Homes has become my home away from home. I spend my days working in a community filled with smiling faces, helpful hands and wonderful residents. I have a passion for assisting seniors and take great pride in being able to promote a company with such a positive mission and values. As an individual committed to learning and growing, I have jumped right into this exciting career!

Bishop Wicke Selected as a Best Nursing Home 2016-2017!

Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center was recently selected by U.S. News and World Report to receive a Best Nursing Homes Ranking for 2016-17, a title they have continued to earn since 2013. U.S. News rated over 15,000 nursing homes across the country in an effort to help caregivers and families find the best nursing home for their loved one. At the top of the Connecticut nursing homes list are those with a rating of five stars from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for their overall performance in health inspections, nurse staffing and quality of medical care. Of the 227 nursing homes in the state, 16 percent earned an overall five-star rating, including Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center. United Methodist Homes Wins Three CALA Best Practices Awards for 2016

The Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) recently selected United Methodist Homes (UMH) as the recipient of three of their Annual Best Practices awards for 2016! UMH, a mission based, not-for-profit organization, with independent and assisted living communities in Newington and Farmington, as well as Shelton, CT, were presented these prestigious awards at CALA’s 21st Annual Meeting and Awards Program held at the Aqua Turf in Southington on Wednesday, December 7th.

This trade association, formed in 1995, has served to promote and support assisted living providers through education, programming and newsletters, legislative and public policy advocacy, and assessment of organizational best practices. Caroling Girl Scouts Visit Bishop Wicke Nursing Home!

Shelton, CT - The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all the residents to hear! Shelton’s Brownie Girl Scout Troop #60465 helped spread the holiday spirit this season by visiting residents at Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center for a fun-filled day of caroling and gift giving. The Girl Scouts handed out handmade Christmas cards and jingle bell wands to the residents of Bishop Wicke to use during their caroling. Debra Samorajczyk, Administrator at Bishop Wicke, says, “To see the smiles on the residents’ faces is such a wonderful sight. This fun event brings both the younger and older generations together which is something we really love to see here.”

Newington Bell Choir Performs at the Wadsworth Atheneum

Christmas bells rang through the corridors of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art this past week during their 43rd Annual Festival of Trees event. The Middlewoods of Newington Bell Choir, called “Ringing in your Ears”, spread the holiday spirit through this festive event by playing a variety of Christmas tunes for visitors. Large crowds enjoyed the music while they toured the many Christmas trees displayed throughout the museum.

Fairfield University Students Complete Geriatric Rotation at Bishop Wicke

Shelton, CT (November 30, 2016) - Wesley Village, a campus of senior living and care communities located in Shelton, CT, bids farewell to their current class of Fairfield University nursing students. For six weeks, Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center, a skilled nursing and rehab center located on the Wesley Village campus, has served as a geriatric clinical training site for Fairfield University students. Erica Wuchiski, Clinical Placement Coordinator at Fairfield University, explains “It is wonderful that our school has partnered with Bishop Wicke to enhance the learning process of the nursing students.” Since 2013, Bishop Wicke has served as a clinical setting for Fairfield University students, equipping them with the skills and experience necessary to thrive in the healthcare field. This particular program is unique because it offers its 4 year nursing students the opportunity to start their clinical rotations in the fall of their sophomore year unlike many other college programs.
